Awards Go to Three Videos

Three videos produced during the pandemic have received four awards of excellence from the 2021 Communicator and 2021 Telly Awards.

Untold Stories: Portuguese-Americans Along the 99 Corridor is the Silver Telly Winner in Non-Broadcast: History (Official Listing) The documentary also received a Communicator Award of Distinction. Professors Candace Egan and Kelley McCoy and student editors Savanna Torres and Kevin Hernandez collaborated on this project with Deniz Borges of the Portuguese Beyond Borders Institute. Thanks also to the many former students that helped shoot the oral history interviews that are the basis of the documentary.

Darkside” is the Bronze Telly Winner in Online: Remote Production (Official Listing). Professor Egan and the fall MCJ 120 class collaborated with the Theatre department and Professor Kathleen McKinley to produce this innovative radio, television, theatre, graphic novel presentation of Tom Stoppard’s play.

Kings Literacy Initiative Pact is the Bronze Telly Winner in Non-Broadcast: Cause Marketing (Official Listing). Professor Egan produced, wrote and edited this documentary about the Pact’s work training teachers to teach reading using methods based on research into how the brain learns to read. MCJ alumni Eddie Gonzales, Chris Erlenheim, Ronnie Gerber, Skyler Munkers, Mali Lee and Kelsey Moore all were field crew members over the two and a half year production.
